When one of you wants firm and the other wants soft
One bed, two bodies and only one firmness to go round. What the options are, honestly, from a split mattress to a bed that reads each side.

You like it firm. The person next to you wants soft. A normal mattress picks one of you, and whoever loses spends every night quietly making do.
This is the most common problem that walks into the showroom, and it is the one a showroom is worst at solving. Two people lie on a bed for ninety seconds, one of them says it is fine, and the other says nothing.
Why one firmness cannot fit two people
Firmness is not a preference in the way a colour is. It is a match between a body and a surface.
A heavier body sinks further into the same foam than a lighter one. A side sleeper needs the shoulder to sink; a back sleeper needs the hips held. A broad shoulder over a light hip wants a different surface from a body that is the same width top to bottom. Put two bodies on one surface and at least one of them is on the wrong mattress.
The picture at the top of this page is two hands on the same mattress, one pressing hard and one resting lightly. The quilt deforms differently under each. That is the whole disagreement in one frame, and no single firmness resolves it.
The compromises people make
The first is the middle. Medium-firm is bought more than anything else in the trade, not because most people need it but because it upsets nobody enough to argue. Both of you get a bed that is slightly wrong.
The second is two mattresses pushed together. It works, and it leaves a seam down the middle of the bed.
The third is separate rooms. We hear this more than you would think, and it is a reasonable answer to a real problem. Before you give up a room, it is worth knowing that the problem is one bed with two bodies in it, and there are beds built for exactly that.
Three beds that take each side separately
Every air mattress in the CasAI range splits down the middle and controls each half on its own. The difference between them is who does the controlling.
With the Air range, you do. The AirPro has eight chambers, four a side, and each side is set from the remote or the app. Your side firm, their side soft, and either of you can change your mind on a Tuesday without the other one noticing. The AirFlex does the same in king size only. Nothing here is automatic; it holds whatever you set.
With the AI Pro, the bed does it. The AI Pro XII has twelve chambers, six a side, and air-pressure sensing in each one. It reads how each of you is lying and adjusts the chambers under each of you separately, all night. If you turn onto your side, your shoulder softens. If they stay on their back, their hips stay held. The two halves are read and controlled as two beds that happen to share a cover. The sleep reports are split the same way, so a couple gets two.
With the Elevate 2 Dual base underneath, the halves also move separately. One head end can lift for reading, or for the anti-snore function on the AI Pro, while the other stays flat.
What to bring to the showroom
Both of you. Half of what we can show you only makes sense with two people on the mattress.
The fitting scans you one at a time and puts the two readings side by side. Then we set the two halves differently and you lie down together and feel where they meet. It takes about fifteen minutes, three of them scanning, and there is nothing to buy on the day.
If it turns out you both want the same feel after all, we will say so. A Sync in one grade is a good bed and a lot less money, and we would rather tell you that than sell past it.
